What is Micellar Water and Why you need it
Everyone is looking for the perfect solution to remove your makeup. If you’ve tried makeup wipes, you know they can be a little harsh on your skin. Many people have also tried using oil makeup removers, but unfortunately those can sometimes leave your pores clogged, resulting in breakouts! Finding the right makeup remover should not be as complicated as it is. What could be the happy medium that your skin will thank you for?
Cue micellar water. Micellar water was invented by the french founder of Bioderma and is the new holy grail for most skincare professionals. It was created to remove makeup without irritating the skin while still getting rid of all the dirt and oil that can clog your pores. Sounds like a miracle product, right?
Who is Micellar Water Meant For?
This water-based cleansing solution usually comes in different formulas for dry, sensitive, and oily skin. Anyone who is looking to remove their makeup, have a quick post-workout refresher, or doesn’t have time to wash their face in the mornings should try using micellar water. It’s the perfect solution for on the go cleansing!
What Even is Micellar Water?
Contrary to what the name might suggest, this magical cleansing water isn’t just water. It actually contains soft water (unlike the hard, harsh tap water that comes from your sink) so it’s much more gentle on your skin.
Micellar water also has micelles (hence the name micellar water) that are actually tiny little particles of oil that naturally attract the dirt and debris on the skin. These micelles are what gives micellar water its cleansing properties and effectively removes your makeup. Because micelles naturally attract dirt and oil, micellar water doesn’t throw off the ph balance of your skin like other makeup removers usually do. You’re left with soft, clean, non-irritated skin!
Is Micellar Water and Toner the Same Thing?
We can definitely see how you can think this, but the short answer is no. Toner is generally meant to restore the ph to your skin after using harsh cleansers that strip the skin of its natural oils. Some toners even contain alcohol, which can irritate your skin and make you break out!
Micellar water is basically meant to do the opposite, it doesn’t strip your skin whatsoever and allows you to use a more gentle cleanser. This is because you’re effectively removing your makeup before you even touch your cleanser. This means you can use a cleanser without harsh ingredients!
How Do You Use this Magical Cleanser?
Micellar water is best applied with a cotton ball or round. To remove your makeup, soak the cotton round in the micellar and gently swipe it across your face. If you’re looking for a more sustainable option, you can purchase reusable washable cotton pads from Amazon!
If you’re using micellar water as a toner, the process is more or less the same except you can just use a little bit less than when removing makeup. And guess what? In either case, you don’t have to rinse it off! It doesn’t leave any type of residue or film on your skin after use.
If you want something on the go, a lot of companies sell mini bottles of their full size micellar waters! These are great to keep in the car, on your gym back, or in your locker if you’re a student.
